Short Run Comix & Arts Festival is more than thrilled to announce John Porcellino will be our special guest for our 2014 Festival, held Saturday, November 15th in Seattle. Known for his critically-acclaimed long-running mini-comic, King-Cat Comics and Stories, Porcellino will debut his first-ever graphic novel of original material, The Hospital Suite, out this fall from Drawn & Quarterly.
Not only will Porcellino be a featured exhibitor at our festival, but he will be in attendance for a special screening of Root Hog or Die, a documentary about his life and work, at Central Cinema on Sunday, November 16th. Directed by filmmaker Daniel Stafford, the documentary features interviews with fellow indie comix artists Jeffrey Brown, Ivan Brunetti, and Zak Sally, to name a few.
Short Run is especially proud to host Porcellino at our fourth annual show, as we feel his work and career exemplifies what our festival celebrates. Co-founder and organizer Kelly Froh states: “I think of John P. as the King of Mini-Comics. He’s an example of a comic artist that did not leave “DIY” behind when he found some success, because it’s not a stepping stone — it’s an original, creative, empowering way to make books and share your work.”
Short Run Comix & Arts Festival will feature hundreds of independent artists alongside John Porcellino this fall 2014 at the historic Washington Hall in Seattle. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements. Applications to be an exhibitor open in May.
